Sugar gliders are an excellent pet but they are not for everyone. I
must admit, when I first bought Flower from an outdoor flea market, I
had no idea how to properly care for her or what her needs were. After
diligently researching gliders for the past two years, I
have learned so much and I would like to pass that knowledge onto you. Remember that I am not an expert on these animals, just passing knowledge from one person to the next.
Keep in mind that many people will look at baby sugar gliders and think 'Aww...They are so cute,' but most don't realize the proper diet and nutrition needed with raising an exotic animal. These animals are not to be treated like a rat or gerbil that lives off of hard pellet food, but we will talk more about that under the Food section. So, if you think this is still the pet for you...there are many places to start your search.
Rescue organizations are excellent place to look for sugar gliders before buying a baby because so many are given up for adoption. I take in rescue gliders and have them neutered to prevent excessive reproduction. Breeding gliders can be very hard if you don't know what you are doing and require a great deal of time. Do not buy a pair of gliders in hopes of making a profit off these animals. However, if you do own a male and female, have the male neutered or be prepared to keep the offspring if you are not able to find them a great home.
Licensed breeders are another option when looking into adopting a sugar glider because these people take great care and consideration into raising their babies and adults. There are literally hundreds of websites on the web that have licensed breeders selling sugar gliders. Take a look around and see.
I am NOT A LICENSED BREEDER or RESCUE ORGANIZATION, but a suggie lover who takes in unwanted gliders and gets them adopted to knowledgeable owners. I am still learning everyday and I hope my website will offer you some insite into these wonderful creatures before you decide that this is the right pet for you.
